In Their Own Words
by Mike Wohl
This young lovely is of course a Landsknecht, one of the famous German mercenary bands of the 16th century.
Here, she and her companions have uncovered not gold but bread, potatoes and a nice piece of cloth.
She is purposely painted in somewhat muted colors compared to how Landsknechts are usually portrayed.
The hardest part of the whole figure for
me was her wheel-lock pistol. I have a
very hard time with non-organic forms
and especially with anything machined.
