Kagero JG 301 "Wilde Sau" by Phil Novak
Another one of Kagero's "miniature" books, the one on JG 301 is primarily a
unit history. These book remind me of the Osprey Aviation Elite. They are
written in the same style, and give a good history of the unit in question.
This one picks up with a story told by Willi Reschke, a 27 victory pilot and Knights cross holder. It then goes on to describe the units actions as a daylight defense of the Reich unit, going to the final actions in 1945. This unit is unique in that it flew the impressive Ta-152, which was a souped up Fw190.
With its long and lanky appearance it was a formidable opponent in the skies
over Germany. The book keeps with Kagero's format of giving seven color
plates (two in a center fold out section) and the decals to comlete them in
1/72 or 1/48 scale. My only real gripe is that half the book is in Polish, which
takes up space where there could be English text! Even so that's a small
problem, which doesn't effect how good the books is. Overall it is a solid book.
