Pegaso Models 54mm Gladiators by Phil Novak

Generally speaking I model subjects from the Second World War, but sometimes it's good to get away from all the World War II stuff. For me, that is where Gladiators come into play. I saw some of them in a catalogue and just had to paint them. Also keep in mind that not all Gladiators were the same, there were many different classes and different types within the classes. Pegaso makes many different types of gladiators, the Secutor, the Retiarius, the Murmillo (2 types), the Laequarius, the Amazon, the Amazon with Falcata, the Diana Ventrix, and the Scissor. They arrive in a well protected, cleverly designed box. The white metal is well cast, and the seams are light and easy to remove. The parts fit together well, but putty is still necessary to ensure an invisible seam. They are an absolute joy to paint, and they take a while to complete. There is a lot there and you don't really realize it until you get going. For the ones that have a lot of exposed skin, especially the Diana Ventrix, I would suggest using an airbrush to paint the skin. The thing to keep in mind while painting these is to be creative! Don't get bogged down by following somebody else. Make each Gladiator your own and enjoy the experience.
