Review
JJ Fedorowicz Publishing's "Panzertaktik" by Phil Novak
Written by Wolfgang Schneider (author of
Tigers in Combat Vol. I and II), Panzertaktik
covers German armored tactics of the Second
World War. Concentrating on small unit actions,
battalion sized and smaller, Schneider goes
into fantastic detail of how German armor was
used. The book is 512 pages long with over 600
photos, so it is worth the price just in the
reference photos alone.
It covers offensive operations, defensive operations, unit movements, Reconnaissance, Command and Control,
Logistics and Maintenance, Combined Arms Operations, Life in a Tank, Training and Gunnery, and Armor
Tactics today and tomorrow. Panzertaktik reads almost like an operational manual, giving the reader an idea of
how armor crews lived, and what they did when not experiencing combat actions. One really gets a sense of
how it must of been to hop in a Panzer IV or Tiger during World War II. The reader gets a look on how
important and in-depth crew training was which was absolutely critical, as well trained crews are able to
operate despite a constant fear. Not only is the book useful to modelers, but it could be useful to war gamers ,
giving them ideas on armor tactics. A great read.
