Armed with a powerful, 75mm l/48 gun, the Ausf G was assigned the role of a tank destroyer. The model has a die-cast lower hull, a commander figure, extra parts for variants and a choice of four markings.

Tamiya Labeling Problems Fixed

Retailers will be receiving shipments of Tamiya paint again soon, according to the company, following a stoppage due to labeling problems.

According to Tamiya's Fred Medel, the Consumer Products Safety Commission ordered the company to stop shipping paint because its labels weren't configured properly. Dealers were allowed to sell the stock they had on hand, but couldn't get any more until the problem is fixed.

"We had all the required warnings on there," Medel said. "We just didn't have them in the right place according to the CPSC."

Some stores ran out of paint, prompting Tamiya to get new labels printed and affixed to existing stock. "The secretary, the shipping people - even me - are putting labels on whenever we have a free minute," Medel said.

He said paint shipments should resume shortly. Future stock coming from Japan will have the proper labeling, he added.

1/16 German Tiger I Early Production Display Model

The earth shaking Tiger I, now makes a new appearance as a 1 / 16 scale motorized display model. Based on the detailed body of the RC Tiger I released last year, this display model comes with a variety of new parts for the recreation of several types of vehicles. The new parts include a modified air cleaner and new gun mantlet, as well as tank commander figure garbed in the heat resistant African front uniform. Two types of kits, African front version and Russian-front version, are included in package. The openable driver's hatch and gunner's hatch feature a reproduction of the tank's characteristic lock lever. The model is motorized with a single RE-260 motor. Even the novel design of the package itself is sure to bring a new standard to the modeling world.

1 /35 U.S. Medium Tank M4A3 Sherman 75mm Gun Late Production (Frontline Breakthrough)

This version of the Sherman was used to decisively pierce the enemy line, allowing the Allies to advance the rest of their units. In this kit, foot soldier figures suited in winter gear and in attack postures, as well as the half-exposed tank commander staring into the distance bring an "in the midst of battle" feel to the kit.

Kit comes with choice of dish or press type wheels and loading hatch can be assembled in either the open or closed position. Kit comes complete with M2 heavy machine gun, medicine boxes, ration crates, and other accessories. The markings included in the kit focus on depiction of tank as it was on the Ardennes front.

1/35 M4A3 Sherman 105mm Howitzer (Assault Support)

Developed primarily for ground troop support, the 105mm equipped M4A3 was added to the Sherman series. Now, Tamiya presents a 1 /35 scale replication accurate down to the casting of the round gun turret. The battle postures of 3 ground troop figures and the steady gaze of the tank commander convey a sense of tension felt during battle. The kit comes complete with heavy M2 machine gun and a variety of accessories. Pair this model up with the 75mm Gun Late Production version for creating the perfect diorama.

1 /48 Grand Slam Bomber Lancaster

Tamiya is proud to add a realistic replica featuring actual propeller rotation of the 4-engine Lancaster carrying its 8 meter-long Grand Slam Bomb. This reproduction portrays the power of the bomber that rocked German U-Boat bases during WWII.

4 micro-motors enable full propeller rotation. Kit features pre-painted canopy and is made easy-to-assemble.

1/700 Russian SSGN Kursk (Oscar II Class)

Three sets of decal's included In addition to the Kursk (K-141), kit also includes markings for two other Oscar II class submarines- the 9th Oscar II, the Omsk (K-186), as well as the 11th Oscar II, the Tomsk (K-512).

The Kursk model is ideal for using in dioramas. With this model you can enjoy creating awesome scenes. About the model Tamiya presents a model kit for the Oscar II class Guided Missile Nuclear Submarine, the Kursk. 1/700 scale, length: 205mm, width: 26mm.

Model features authentic replication of sound dampening tile, cruise missile launchers, torpedo launching tubes, and water drainage slits.

The periscope and radar antenna may be modeled in "in-use" or "stowed" positions. Eagle emblem on forward side of conning tower replicated as decal.

Patton 's Pride

While the US-built M4 Sherman Howitzer tank was inferior in many respects to the German Panzers it went up against in World War II, it was none the less used to great effect by Allied generals like George S. Patton against their adversaries. In fact, Patton used the Sherman to outfox Germany's Rommel and destroy his elite Panzer forces in the sands of the African desert. The victory was as much a testament to the compact firepower of the Sherman Howitzer as it was an example of Patton's tactical brilliance.

Rock-and-roar

Tamiya's 1/16 M4 Sherman is the most detailed radio controlled example of this historic tank in kit form that we have seen. Highlights include digitally recorded engine sounds from a full-scale Sherman engine that are linked to the motor speed of the model. As if that wasn't enough fun, the roar of the Sherman's 105mm Howitzer main gun is reproduced and accompanied by lighted muzzle flash and rocking recoil action! Two 380 electric motors drive the chassis, which features a coil spring suspension for smooth running over all terrain.

The large tank body is loaded with details, such as Jerry cans, ammo cases, and K-ration cases. It can be operated on as few as two channels, which will control forward, reverse, turning, and pivoting at all speeds. If you limit yourself to just two channels, the tank must be stopped to operate both the turret and gun sounds.

The Tamiya Sherman's level of detail, combined with the authentic sounds and actions, are thoroughly entertaining. Whether you are a tank buff or not, this kit has something for just about anyone.

Teutonic Tank Killer

By Bob Hayden

DURING THE THIRD REICH'S invasion of Russia, the powerful T-34 and KV-1 tanks of the Soviet Union wreaked havoc on the advancing German troops. In an attempt to neutralize this threat, the Germans employed the use of the deadly Marder III Tank Destroyer. Armed with a massive 76.2 mm Pak 36 L/51 gun, the 10-ton Marder was more than a match for its Soviet prey. Typically manned by a crew of four, the Marder was propelled by a 125 horsepower, six-cylinder engine and protected with armor that varied in thickness from 10-50mm.

Just like the real thing Tamiya has done an excellent job in conveying the awesome might of this Teutonic tank killer with their 1/35 scale rendering of the subject. Details abound, like an MP40(38) submachine gun, gas mask case, and periscope that are visible through the it's open top. Bringing an extra touch of life to the kit are two included crew figures in dynamic poses that can be positioned a number of different places on the vehicle. Authentic markings used by Marders on the Russian front, as well as those from the North African campaign, are included as well.

Paints that Tamiya recommends for detailing the kit include their XF63 German Grey, XF60 Dark Yellow, XF10 Flat Brown, XF61 Dark Green, and XF1 Flat Black. This kit has more than enough detail to be displayed on its own, but the subject's combat support role makes it an excellent addition to any Eastern Front or North African campaign 1/35 scale diorama.

Moonlight Marauder

By Bob Hayden

FOR ALLIED BOMBER PILOTS FLYING missions in the night skies of the South Pacific during WWII, darkness afforded little protection from the Gekko. Designed as a dedicated night fighter variant of the Nakajima J1N1, the Gekko, which means "moonlight" in Japanese, enjoyed considerable success in this role and was particularly effective against the slower flying B-24's and B-17's. The Gekko's bite came from twin, obliquely mounted 20mm cannons installed dorsally behind the canopy and underneath the fuselage, just aft of the wing roots.

Kit details Tamiya's replica is based on studies of the world's only Gekko still on display at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C. The model's cockpit is exceptionally detailed and can be viewed easily under the large canopy that can be modeled open or closed. The dorsal gun compartment's hatch can also be modeled in the open or closed position. The cowls are slide molded in perfect detail and simplify construction. Two pilot figures, as well as two types of markings, are also included in the kit. Collector's of unique warbird subjects will definitely want to add this moonlight marauder to their ensemble.

1/35 German Field Kitchen Scene Usually pulled by two or four horses, these mobile kitchens were an integral part of the German ground infantry units during the World War II. Tamiya's 1/35 replica includes two chef figures and two soldier figures. While the kit can stand on its own, it will make a unique addition to any WWII diorama.

Dornier 335 Trainer

As armies grew smaller and resources became less available, WWII began nearing its end. However, the Germans did not cease their development of new military feats. Hence, the Germans created a powerful new twin-engine fighter - the Dornier.

This aircraft would be like no other. Two Daimler-Benz V12 engines would give it the power needed to reach greater speeds than any other propeller-driven aircraft, with one engine in the front and one mid-fuselage revving a propeller at each end of the aircraft. It had the sleek aerodynamics of a single-engine fighter, while packing the punch of a twin-engine. It was hoped to be the answer to the problem of warding off daily allied bombing raids on the Reich. Although there were over 60 variations designed, only 36 were fully built.

Of those 36, 11 were DO335As, and Tamiya is now offering the Twin Cockpit Trainer version. Designed in popular 1/48 scale, this kit is sure to intrigue aircraft modelers and tickle Luftwaffe enthusiasts. This unique version of the Dornier 335A features two cockpits: one in the fuselage and the other mounted atop the fuselage. Also, each cockpit can be opened to reveal a detailed interior. Along with the detailed engine and propellers, the authentically recreated body also features detailed landing gears. The bomb hatch can even be modeled in an open or closed position. After painting this pristine kit in classic Luftwaffe colors, Tamiya gives the modeler the option of markings for two types of planes. When all is said and done, a modeler can look proudly on an excellent replica of an aircraft legend.

FAMO & Tank Transporter: 1/35 The tank-transporting terror, dubbed the "Dragon Wagon," entered modeling history in 1998. Soon to follow was the eighteen-ton half-track "FAMO". Now Tamiya has melded the two with a unique FAMO variation, including the Sd.Ah.116 Tank Transporter. Both the Dragon Wagon and the FAMO have been modeling favorites since their debut, and this new variation is sure to be a huge hit.

As did the original FAMO kit, this kit's FAMO will feature authentic-looking tracks and steerable front wheels. However, in order to make assembly a bit less difficult, the chassis frame has been molded as one piece. It has the same highly detailed engine block as the original, as well as the four original figures; each can be assembled in one of four poses.

Four all-new figures are included. Each can be assembled in one of three poses for a full tank-loading scene in the rear of the trailer. Finally, to add that professional look that Tamiya is known for, several metal and metal-plated parts, such as a chain for fixing the tank in tow to the platform, are included.

Together, the FAMO and the Sd.Ah.116 Tank Transporter measure over 650 mm, making it 50 mm longer than the Dragon Wagon and the longest kit in Tamiya's Military Miniatures Series. High detail, metal parts, and eight figures will make this kit the focus of hundreds of diorama possibilities.
