Trumpeter pulls locomotive kit decals

Stevens International, the U.S. distributor of Trumpeter model kits, issued a statement on March 22 advising its vendors to make customers aware that no decals were included with the Trumpeter No. 210 Locomotive kit. This kit replicates the BR52 "Kriegslocomotive," an armored World War II German locomotive that displayed Nazi symbols.

According to Mike Bass, president of Stevens International, various countries receiving shipments from Trumpeter took issue with the Nazi symbols the model manufacturer reproduced on its decal sheets.

"In order to satisfy all markets, the decal sheets were pulled," Bass said, adding aftermarket decals that can be used on this kit are available in the U.S.

In 1984, the now OTOBREDA and IVECO formed a consortium to develop a new family of vehicles for the Italian Army. In 1998, the Ariete entered in the Italian active service. The layout of the C1 Ariete MBT is conventional with the driver at the front right, power operated turret in the center with commander and gunner on the right and loader on the left, & powerpack at the rear. The computerized fire control system includes day/night sights and laser rangefinder. Built in response to a 1939 requirement for a carrier-based torpedo-bomber to replace the TBD Devastator, the TBF Avenger proved one of the most versatile aircraft of World War II. Equipped with an electrically powered gun turret and an internal bomb bay, the aircraft carried a crew of three. All told, a total of 9,842 production versions rolled off assembly lines. The Avenger was the primary torpedo bomber of the US Navy during most of WWII. It earned a place in history during the Battle of Midway when almost all of the first TBFs to see combat were completely demolished before reaching their targets. Despite this, the TBF went on to have far greater success than the Battle of Midway later on, earning its place in history as a valuable torpedo bomber.

Testing of the Vigilante started in the late 1950's and continued through the 1970's. On December 13, 1960, the Vigilante set a world altitude record with payload, when it climbed to 91,450 feet with a payload of 1,000 kilograms. This surpassed the existing record by over 4 miles. The Vigilante was a supersonic, long range, all weather, carrier-based combat aircraft. Its first flight (attack version) was on August 31, 1958. A total of 79 Vigilantes were built. The remaining attack versions (A-5A's and A-5B's) were subsequently converted to RA-5C's. The last RA-5C fleet was disestablished in September 1979. The LCM (Landing Craft, Mechanized) was used in WWII to transport troops and vehicles across the English Channel for the invasion of Normandy. The LCM(3) variant was developed with a longer hull and greater buoyancy in order to accommodate new heavier equipment such as 30-ton tanks. It could also handle up to 30 tons of cargo or 60 troops. One of the most important roles played by the LCMs on D-Day was the transport of advance engineer teams assigned the duty of demolishing beach obstacles placed by the Germans.

Sukhoi Su27 Flanker due in September

The Su-27 was developed as a long-range air superiority fighter, having improved the quality of the former Soviet fighters. It's combat abilities compare roughly to the US F-15. Up to 10 air-to-air missiles can be carried and is equipped with a formidable front and rear radar system. This allows the Su-27 to fire at targets in front or behind the aircraft. The Flanker-B variant was placed into service in April, 1981, having been newly equipped with better aerodynamics and an aft radar extension.

These Soviet Cruisers, when first constructed, were the largest war-ships in existence, besides aircraft carriers. They first entered service in 1980 and are classed as nuclear propelled missile cruisers by the West. The Kirov class ships featured a 100cm thick armored hull, very unusual in modern warships. In addition an 80mm thick armored wall surrounded the command room. Each carried 3 anti-submarine helicopters. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, new military economics made in impossible to continue the costly upkeep of these cruisers, so their reactors have not operated since 1992.

  1/72 NORTH AMERICAN F107A ULTRA SABRE PROTOTYPE AIRCRAFT: On September 10, 1956 the F107A, which was originally designed as a tactical fighter-bomber version of the F100, made its initial fight.Three F107As were built as prototypes and were test flown extensively, but the aircraft did not go into production.  US BATTLESHIP "USS MISSOURI": The Missouri is the third ship of the Iowa Class battleships which was one of the most famous in US Navy history. She participated in almost all major sea battles since its entry into US navy service in WWII. In 1980, the Reagan administration ordered the reactivation of the battleship. It was modernized with missiles & electronic equipment and reentered into service in July 1986. In January 1995, four years after participating in the Gulf War with the USS Wisconsin, she was finally deactivated. (15" long; appx 220 pieces on 8 sprues)

US BATTLESHIP "USS WISCONSIN" : The construction of USS Wisconsin began at the Philadelphia Navy Yard in January 1941, the fourth ship of the Iowa Class battleships. It entered service in April 1944 as part of the 3rd fleet in the Pacific. After WWII the Wisconsin returned home and served as a training ship. In 1980, the Reagan administration ordered the reactivation of the battleship. It was re-equipped with missile launchers, missiles & a helicopter deck. In September 1991 she was place on reserve duty & is now moored at the Norfolk Navy Yard in Virginia.(15" long; appx 220 pieces on 8 sprues)
