Hobby Hint
On of the reason I like the Napoleonic Period is the fancy and colorful uniforms these guys wore.
This period probably had the largest diversity of elegant uniforms of any period I've painted.
Their uniforms were so elegant, they were, for the most part, impractical for fighting.
Here are three of the many figures from this time period that I've done over the past several years.
This first figure is a Russian.(He could also be used for the Seven Years War.)
The boots are black, coat is Dark Green with medium blue facings, and gold trim on the bicorne, buttons, and lacing on cuffs.
Next up is a French Infantryman, Napoleonic Grenadiers.
He's got the grenade emblem on his tail coat. I put some shading in the folds layering
progressively darker blues
Linen color pants, blue jacket, white tunic and red trim round him out.
The final one is an Lancer/Bugler. The fancy epaulets were not just to make them look pretty; they were also functional.
It helped to protect them from saber slashes. This guy's done up in a crimson pink and military brown uniform with
semigloss black riding boots. And silver on the collars.
