Retrospective

The Miniature World of Bob Caruso

A Clash of Arms: "All in all, figure painting is a most relaxing, enjoyable way to recreate worlds in miniature. The masters of this hobby can relive a piece of history in their works."

Aerosan Diorama: "Before attaching it, I put the disc in a lathe and tapered it to the shape of a prop. While still spinning, I airbrushed the yellow tips. To give the effect of motion, I airbrushed fine brown lines on it (also while still spinning in the lathe)."

Cobra Warrior: "I don't remember who made this resin figure. He's probably a wargame figure: a mean and nasty cobra warrior of some sort."

Danse Macabre: "Danse Macabre is a medieval symbolic representation of death. A medieval dance or procession in which a skeleton representing death leads other skeletons or living persons to the grave -- called also dance of death."

Dragon 1/144 King Tiger Tank: "I weathered it up and added some scenery to the base. It makes for a really neat little scene"

El Viejo Dragon 120mm Roman Signifer : "Each signaler (staff) was different. They were used to give signals to the Legions during battle. It also made them the number one target on the battlefield as their enemies attempted to eliminate the Romans "Command and Control" structure first."

1/72 Esci T34/76: "This T34 has been knocked out and abandoned. Some extra details have been added such as tow cables."

Games Workshop Dragon Ogre:"This Ogre is from the Warhammer 40,000 range of figures. I used regular artist tube acrylics, as that was the only way that I could find the metallic pink and green."

Great Unclean One: "This is a figure that Games Workshop made in their Fantasy Range. They called it the Great Unclean One (also known as the Greater Demon of Nurgle)."

Hornet Model's 1/35 Russians by Bob Caruso: "Hornet Models makes a bunch of these soldiers in 1/35 scale and are somewhat typical in what one would see during the period."

Kaiser Wilhelm I: "The Andrea blue I used is a fantastic color and behaves like a real good enamel that never dries glossy...ever."

Killbot: "This 54mm Ral Partha figure is one of my favorite Science Fiction pieces."

Mirage 1/400 German Type VII Submarine: "I cut the sub (1/400 scale kit from PST) in half at an angle and put the front top 3/4 of it on a wood base covered with sculpted styrofoam."

MR Models 1/35 Spiggot Mortar: "This type of mortar was used by the Japanese for Coastal defense. The sign next to the mortar translates to "Danger"."

Napoleonic Period: "On of the reason I like the Napoleonic Period is the fancy and colorful uniforms these guys wore."

Nausicaa: Painting Japanese Anime:"My cleaning up process entails picking around all the details such as belts and pouches with homemade tools. I made these tools specifically for the purpose of raising the level of detail to greater sharpness."

Red Steel: "So as we can see, there are many ways of constructing Russian tanks without seeing the same thing over and over again. The methods of these modelers show us that a 'plain' paint scheme can be very interesting."

Roden 1/72 JS3: "This model depicts an Egyptian JS3 that has been knocked out in the Sinai Desert. The end of its barrel has been blown up and it has lost the treads."

Royal Model 1/35 U81 Seaman: "The figure was painted with Andrea acrylics, while the sub was painted with Testors enamel."

Russian Winter: "This vignette depicts two Germans warming themselves by a stove. This 1/35 scale kit by CMK had most of the stuff cast onto the base."
